Wednesday- The Character Development of Jenna Ortega 'Wednesday'

Fun Fact: Jenna Ortega and I used to be instagram friends.

I love Jenna Ortega and I think she is such a talented actress. When I saw the previews for Wednesday I was so excited to see her take on it, and I think she totally nailed it.

From episode one, Wednesday is extremely cold, harsh spoken, irrational and monotone. She is forced to attend Nevermore Academy with other creatures and personalities who dont normally fit in with the "normies" (people with no powers).

From meeting her roommate, Wednesday has no interest in any of it, and plans to escape.

As Enid, her roommate and her begin to get closer, Wednesday begins to discover the schools secrets and overall shows more emotion. Her romantic chemistry begins to blossom, and as the viewer I was able to feel what her emotions were from her eyes, even when she was monotone.

I wanted to pull a quote she said in an interview about her character------

“Adding those layers of insecurity and [other] lived-in qualities that make a teenager a teenager is really, really interesting,” says Ortega, who was compared to her character long before she donned her Wednesday wig. “Especially with a character that we’ve never gotten the opportunity to know well enough, because she’s always been the one-liner, off to the side with a funny punchline.”

Having a Latina representation for an already iconic character I think was a really smart and successful thing to do with this new series.

Towards the end of the season, we see all emotions from Wednesday. Smiling, crying, laughs and even hugs which is a huge change from the beginning. Overall, I really enjoyed this season and hope there will be a season two!!
